You drop a spoon. Your child spills water. Someone asks "what's for dinner?" and you want to cry.
Then after crying, you feel guilty. You think, "Why am I crying? Other moms are strong. I should not cry over small things."
If this is you, you are not alone. Many busy moms feel this way.
Why does this happen?
1. You are tired. Very tired:
When you don't sleep well for many days, your feelings become big. Small problems feel like big problems.
2. You do too much:
You take care of kids, house, work, food, and everyone. You have no time for yourself. Your body gets stressed. Stress makes you cry easily.
3. You keep feelings inside:
Many moms don't talk about how they feel. You smile outside but you are tired inside. One small thing can bring all the feelings out.
4. Your hormones are changing:
After having a baby, your body changes. This can make your mood go up and down. It is normal and it takes time.
Why do you feel guilty after?
Because you love your family. You want to be a happy, strong mom. So when you cry, you think you are failing. But crying does not mean you are failing. Crying means you need rest and support.
What can you do when you feel like crying?
1. Pause for 1 minute: Stop what you are doing. Breathe in and out 3 times slowly.
2. Drink water: Many times we cry more when we are tired and not drinking enough water.
3.Say it out loud: Say "I am feeling tired and overwhelmed right now." Talking helps.
4. Ask for small help: You don't need to do everything. Say "Can you watch the kids for 10 minutes? I need a break.
5.Write it down: Take a small book and write what made you cry. You will see a pattern.
