How To Not Get Sick When Your Kids Bring Home Everything (A Realistic Guide)

Let's be real for a second.

You know that feeling. Your kid walks in from school with a little cough. You freeze. Your brain goes, "Oh no. Here we go again."

Three days later and you're on the couch with a box of tissues, wondering where all these germs came from

It happens. And honestly? It's exhausting.

But here's the thing. You don't have to catch every single bug your kids bring home. There are ways to fight back. And no, I'm not going to tell you to sleep more or stress less. That's not realistic. Our tips on busy moms blog, we are realistic.

Here are some tips that actually help.

1.Wash Your Hands. A Lot:

I know. You've heard this a million times. But seriously, it works.

After you wipe a nose? Wash. After you make lunch? Wash. After you pick up toys? Wash.

And please, please don't touch your face. That's how germs get in. Eyes, nose, mouth—keep your hands away. It's hard, I know. But try. Every time you stop yourself, you're winning.

Keep hand sanitizer in your bag, in your car, and by the couch. Use it often.

2.Change Those Clothes:

This one is so easy but we forget.

When your kid come home from school, their clothes are full of classroom germs. Don't let them sit on the couch or your bed in those clothes.

Make a rule. As soon as they walk in, they change into comfy home clothes. Throw the school clothes straight into the washing machine.

Do the same for yourself when you get home from work or the store. It sounds extra, but trust me. It keeps germs off your furniture and out of your space.

3.Clean the Hot Spots:

You don't need to deep-clean your whole house every day. That's not too realistic if you ask me.

Just hit the spots everyone touches.

Wipe the door handles. Wipe the light switches. Wipe the TV remote. That's it. Two minutes. Done.

Those are the germiest places in your house. Clean them once a day and you're ahead of the game.

4.Drink More Water:

I know you run on coffee.

But your body needs water to fight germs. When you're dehydrated, your immune system is weak.

Keep a big water bottle with you all day. One with a straw helps you drink more. Finish it by lunch. Refill it. Do it again.

It's small, but it helps.

5.Act Fast:

The moment you feel that scratchy throat? Don't wait.

Take some Vitamin C. Drink hot water with honey and lemon. Suck on a zinc lozenge.

Sometimes it stops the sickness before it really starts. Sometimes it doesn't. But it's worth a try.

6.Rest When You Can:

I'm not telling you to sleep eight hours. I know that's a joke.

But try to sit down for 10 minutes when you can. Close your eyes. Breathe.

Even a little rest helps your body fight harder.

7.Be Kind to Yourself:

Here's the most important thing.

You're going to get sick sometimes. It's going to happen. And that's okay.

When it does, don't feel bad. Don't push yourself. Put on a movie for the kids. Order takeout. Let the laundry sit.

Your job is to rest and get better. Everything else can wait.

You're doing amazing. Your kids are lucky to have you.
